My recent holiday in Orlando, Florida lasted a lot longer than planned because we were unable to fly home for a week due to the Icelandic volcanic ash cloud. This threw up an interesting contrast between the US and UK way of dealing with such things. My family and I found ourselves the welcome guests at both Disney and Seaworld theme parks who were allowing free entry to any stranded Brit who could produce a passport and a flight ticket. Compare this to a friend’s aunt who having been stuck in southern Spain for a week and having made a convoluted trip home lasting about three times longer than it needed to arrived at her UK airport to find…….. a parking ticket!! Makes you proud to be British.
