A word from Carol Emmerson, my Business Development Manager….
Some of you may remember back in March 2009 I told you about a ‘Coaching with Horses’ taster day I attended. Well last month I got the opportunity to attend a three day Foundation Course called ‘Coach and Horses’. The course is run by Andrew McFarlane of Leadchange. Andrew is founder director of LeadChange, specialising in the creation and delivery of experiential learning programmes with horses since 2002. He is a thoroughly nice guy and a great coach……just like Matt!!
Five of us attended the course, all of them coaches with the exception of me. The outcome of the course was to equip you with the understanding, knowledge and practical skills for the delivery of Equine Facilitated Coaching and Equine Assisted Learning programmes, although that was not my reason for attending. My motivation for attending was one of self development, to learn more about coaching and to see it done in a different concept. Of course being around horses for three days was very appealing too!!
The programme was highly experiential blending classroom learning and hands on sessions with the horses. Of course the horses were the stars in all of this but you don’t have to be ‘horse mad’ to attend anyone can.
It was absolutely fascinating watching how the horses react to us humans. Horses give feedback on what our (truthful) bodies are telling them…….. with their prey instincts and hypersensitive awareness, horses size people up instantly and accurately. They read the truth in our energy and body language and react to what they see…….its like holding up a mirror!! Half a ton of instant, honest feedback is certainly very effective and can be quite emotional as we found over the three days. I was blown away by the whole experience!!
Leadchange are holding their next three day event on the 1st – 3rd December 2010 in Checkendon near Henley on Thames. If you would like any further information visit their website at www.leadchange.com
